Ethereum Mining Rig Performance

Mining Rig Performance using RX 580 / 570 GPU’s. This rig has 12 GPU’s and the Ethereum mining rig performance is 367 Mh/s; averaged a good solid 30 Mh/s per card.

Mining Rig Performance Using RX 580 / 570 GPU’s

Disclaimer: overclocking/undervolting GPU’s can cause damage to the unit.

I am running 4 different GPU types with EthOS as the OS.

  • MSI RX 580 is the best mining rig performer @ 30.2 Mh/s, temp 60c, 104w. I did the timing straps on all these GPU’s using Polaris in Win 10, but I can’t tell you why it runs this good. My over/under clock for this card is

  • Core: 1150

  • Mem: 2150

  • vlt: 0.950

  • vddci: 850

  • fan: 30

ASUSTek RX 580 is the lowest performer at 29.4 Mh/s, 58C, 130w.

  • Core: 1150

  • Mem: 2150

  • vlt: 0.850

  • vddci: 950

  • fan: 50

XFX RX 580 – I really don’t like these GPU’s; they are enclosed and tend to run a bit hot. 30.6 Mh/s, up to 68C, 130w to 137w.

  • Core: 1150

  • Mem: 2200

  • vlt: 0.900

  • vddci: 850

  • fan: 50

MSI RX 570 are the best running GPU for the money. I’m getting 31 Mh/s, 60C, and about 140w.

  • Core: 1150

  • Mem: 2150

  • vlt: 0.950

  • vddci: 850

  • fan: 30

Overall, the entire rig pulls 1890w. About 1,487w of that can be attributed to GPU’s and 400w to the board and peripherals (like the 12 cooling fans). I tried some server-class cooling fans but they ran full out at 4k rpm and I couldn’t find any device to step them down. There are some devices for low amp standard case fans but these are too high power for that kind of control.

The settings above are from the EthOS local.conf file. For an explanation of it you can visit https://sling00.com/?p=66 or search online. I’m not real clear on how some of the settings affect the GPU’s. The vddci seems to have no affect. The vlt setting will affect some GPU’s more than others for some reason. On the XFX GPU’s I was able to get better performance at slightly lower wattage (lowered 15w to 20w per GPU)by setting mem to 2200 and vlt to 850. However, one XFX GPU was generating mining errors and I backed it down to mem 2190 which seems to have cleared that issue.

Currently using Nanominer on a Linux OS.
